The premier event of the Lowcountry STEM Collaborative is the Charleston STEM Festival, has been POSTPONED. The Collaborative began in 2010 with a mission of effectively engaging our community to advance STEM interest, awareness, and literacy, thereby establishing our region as a leader in STEM education and bolstering our STEM workforce.
Each year at this FREE hands-on, public event we’ve had exhibitors from the business and education worlds engaging festival goers in STEM-focused activities with the purpose of providing insight into what STEM professions there are in our community and ways they can get involved. For the last four years the Charleston STEM Festival has had an impressive 10,000 + participants. In 2019 our planning committee decided to change venues. We’re now at Exchange Park and our relationship with the Exchange Club of Charleston will allow the Festival to continue to grow in an outstanding space.
In 2018 the Charleston STEM Festival Career Concourse was born – an area specifically designed to focusing on Charleston STEM careers and education and targeting our future workforce. The Career Concourse provides a unique opportunity for area attendees to engage directly with local businesses and educators to learn about STEM careers right here in the Charleston area. Attendees are exposed to and explore the educational pipeline needed to enter one of the jobs highlighted at the Concourse exhibit. We’ll have local college and universities included in the Concourse assisting exhibitors with detailing this pipeline. In 2022 we’ll continue the Career Concourse along with our Early Childhood STEAM Pavilion – an area designed to make intentional connections for 3-10 year old’s and their parents between STEAM and our future workforce. This area being led by a partner who is a leader in early childhood development, the Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry.
